CHALLENGE:

Increasing energy efficiency and managing processes and monitoring the operation of energy systems.

SOLUTION:

In modern buildings, a building automation and control system (BAS – Building Automation System) is a key solution for improving energy efficiency, as it enables comprehensive control of processes such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting. With automated monitoring and management of these systems, significant energy savings can be achieved, operating costs can be reduced and better control over the operation of the building can be ensured.

In addition to the BAS system, the Energy Monitoring Information System (ENIS) also plays an important role, enabling in-depth analytics of energy consumption, long-term monitoring of efficiency indicators, and support in decision-making and optimization of the operation of energy devices. The BAS and ENIS systems complement each other, as the BAS provides operational management and control, and the ENIS provides strategic overview and data analysis. Their integration represents the best available technology (BAT) in the management and control of processes and energy-intensive buildings, as it enables simultaneous management of daily operations and long-term energy optimization.

EMPHASIS:

The introduction of the energy monitoring and information system ENIS enabled a reduction in total energy consumption by 50%. »DSO Ljubljana Vič-Rudnik operates two units, Bokalce and Kolezija, which have achieved significant results in the last 15 years in the field of reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency.

“In 2013, together with Enekom, we implemented the energy monitoring information system ENIS and began energy management at the SSZS level. In 2022/2023, we also implemented the central control system BAS at both locations, which enabled the management and control of energy systems, additional optimizations and a significant improvement in energy efficiency at both locations.

Both units improved their energy efficiency indicator by 50%. The Bokalce unit reduced its specific total energy consumption from 340 kWh/m² to 170 kWh/m², and the Kolezija unit from 275 kWh/m² to 138 kWh/m². The total energy consumption of both units is now 45% lower than 15 years ago. During this period, we also achieved more than 9,000 tons of cumulative CO₂ emission savings.

Since the implementation of the ENIS energy monitoring system, both units have shown a continuous reduction in energy consumption, by a total of 35 GWh. At current prices, this represents more than EUR 3.2 million in savings.

These results confirm the successful, long-term and professional management of energy systems at DSO Ljubljana Vič-Rudnik and our commitment to sustainable business.”
