ENEKOM and Eta Cerkno in a research and development project for the development of smart solutions in foundry and energy

April 4, 2023

The companies ENEKOM and Eta Cerkno have joined forces in a joint applied research, development and innovation project, aimed at developing smart ICT solutions and process innovations in metal casting.

The project, which is co-financed by the European Union under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (NextGenerationEU), is progressing according to schedule and is already delivering significant results towards the digital and sustainable transformation of industrial processes.

In December 2022, ENEKOM and Eta Cerkno, as project partners, began implementing a joint research and development project entitled “Development of a smart business software solution for energy and process innovations in metal casting”.
The project was successfully selected in the public call for proposals “Incentives for research and development projects of NOO”, published by SPIRIT Slovenia, and was included among the co-financed projects of the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

The project aims to develop an advanced smart business software solution that will enable energy optimization of processes and digital support for metal casting technologies. The cooperation of the two companies combines the ICT competencies of ENEKOM and the technological know-how of Eta Cerkno, creating synergy between energy and process innovations.
The project is implemented in the period from November 2022 to October 2024, its total budget is EUR 611,485, with EU co-financing of EUR 299,992.

In April 2023, the core project team held a regular monthly live meeting at the location of Eta Cerkno, where, in addition to reviewing the progress of activities, a tour of the production process of foundry sand preparation, which represents one of the key research components in the project, was also organized.
The meeting confirmed that the project is progressing according to the schedule, and the cooperation between the teams is based on an open exchange of knowledge and practical experience, which enables the efficient progress of development activities.

The project represents an important step towards the digital transformation of production processes. By connecting energy information solutions and advanced approaches to foundry technologies, we are creating a smart, sustainable and competitive industrial environment,” said Gregor Kustec, CEO of ENEKOM, about the project.
